Since the fall of 2018, our Brechin 4 ACTION team has been working with Kathi Camilleri to hold her important Reconciliation workshops in Nanaimo.

Each "series" consists of the Building Bridges workshop (October 18th)  followed 2-3 weeks later (Nov 8th)  by Paddling Together for Community.  This will be the first year they are being held on Saturdays.  The posters below provide more details.

The Youth Reconciliation Mixed-Media Collab workshop, previously advertised for Saturday May 10th was unfortunately  cancelled/postponed due to insufficient registration + one of the 2 facilitators was quite ill.

We hope to create a similar workshop opportunity which would utilize the UC Vision Fund grant and the donations early 2026. It looks like we will be collaborating with the School District 68 Indigenous Education Dept. for this workshop. . We will update you as soon as possible!

Gaza: How can we support the people in Gaza?

Dr. Deirdre Nunan, a Canadian physician who has recently been working with Doctors Without Borders in Gaza made several presentations in Nanaimo, Gabriola and elsewhere on the Island last week.  Several people, from Brechin attended. Following her, presentations she was asked what we here could do to learn more, and to support the people in Gaza.

This is her response:

Writing about UN Resolution 377 to your MP, Anita Anand, Mark Carney, and Bob Rae is a great thing for everyone to do. It’s a possibility to circumvent the veto vote in the security council at the UN, and we want Canada to propose or support it! Wikipedia has a run down of previous times it’s been used - it’s not foolproof but it CAN work!.

A few more petitions. These are parliamentary ones and so there is a second step to confirm your email address.

And finally in Nanaimo there’s a group that does lawn signs against the genocide for a suggested $5 donation (endgenocidebc.ca), and Gabriola 4 Gaza on Facebook will keep you updated with more of the latest locally. There is also a mutual aid group including a number of people in BC www.connectinggaza.org that offers psychosocial and financial support to 27 families in Gaza.
